Terms, Conditions & Liability Waiver
The Hair of the Dog: Howl-o-ween Costume Contest (the “Event”) is a community costume contest for dogs and their humans, hosted jointly by Resilient Rover LLC and Standard Deviant Brewing, to be held at Standard Deviant Brewing, San Francisco, California, in October 2025.
Participation in the Event constitutes acknowledgment and agreement to the following Terms, Conditions, and Liability Waiver (“Agreement”) by each participant, including any accompanying minors, guests, or animals. These terms are intended to protect the safety of participants, animals, and attendees, and to limit liability for the organizers, venue, and sponsors.
1. Overview & Acceptance of Terms
By entering, attending, or participating in any portion of the Event, the participant (“Entrant”) acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms and Conditions. This Agreement applies to all activities associated with the Event, including but not limited to participation in the costume contest, attendance at the venue, and engagement in any on-site activities.
The Event is jointly organized by Resilient Rover LLC and Standard Deviant Brewing (collectively, the “Organizers”), with contributions from various event sponsors (“Sponsors”).
2. Eligibility & Contest Participation Rules
Participation is open to adults aged 21 and over. Minors may attend if accompanied and supervised by a parent or legal guardian.
All participants must comply with venue rules and any posted or announced contest instructions.
Contest entries must be in good taste and appropriate for a family-friendly environment. The Organizers reserve the right to disqualify any entrant or remove any person or animal behaving in a disruptive, unsafe, or inappropriate manner.
Contest entry does not guarantee winning a prize. The Organizers’ and judges’ decisions regarding contest outcomes are final.
3. Health, Safety & Animal Conduct Requirements
By participating, entrants affirm that their dogs (or other animals) are in good health, current on vaccinations, and free from contagious illness.
Entrants are solely responsible for the behavior, control, and supervision of their animals at all times.
All animals must remain on leash or under immediate voice control.
Entrants must promptly clean up after their animals and maintain good hygiene and public courtesy.
The Organizers and Sponsors are not responsible for any injury, illness, or property damage caused by or to any animal in attendance.
4. Venue & Alcohol Safety Disclaimer
The Event will be held on the premises of Standard Deviant Brewing, a licensed brewery and taproom. By attending, participants acknowledge that alcohol will be served and that the venue may contain hazards inherent to a working brewery and public taproom.
Participants agree to exercise care and to comply with all posted warnings and staff instructions. The consumption of alcohol is limited to persons aged 21 or older, and any overconsumption or disorderly conduct may result in removal from the premises.
The Organizers and Sponsors disclaim responsibility for injuries or damages arising from alcohol consumption, spills, crowding, or other normal conditions of the venue.
5. Contest Operations & Prizes
Prizes are donated by event Sponsors and may include gift certificates, products, or services (“Prizes”).
Prizes are not redeemable for cash and have no cash equivalent value.
Participants are not responsible for any sales or use taxes associated with Prizes; such obligations, if any, remain with the Sponsors.
The Organizers make no warranties or representations regarding the quality, safety, or functionality of any Prizes awarded.
Winners will be notified and may be photographed as part of the Event’s promotional coverage.
6. Photography, Video & Content Creation
a. General Attendee Recording Notice
The Event is open to the public and will be photographed and recorded by the Organizers, Sponsors, and attendees. By entering the premises, participants and guests consent to being photographed, filmed, and otherwise recorded, and grant permission for such materials to be used for marketing, social media, and other lawful purposes by the Organizers, Sponsors, and media partners.
b. Contest Winners’ Fine-Art Portraits & IP Rights
Contest winners will receive professional fine-art portraits as part of their prize experience, photographed by Resilient Rover LLC.
Intellectual Property Rights: Contest winners retain personal-use rights to their portraits (printing, sharing, and display).
Marketing Rights: Resilient Rover LLC, Standard Deviant Brewing, and event Sponsors retain rights to use the portraits for promotional, marketing, and editorial purposes across print, digital, and social media platforms.
Portraits may be displayed publicly or reproduced in future marketing materials without additional notice or compensation.
c. Sponsor & Organizer Marketing Use
Sponsors and Organizers may use any photo, video, or written content generated during the Event to promote their products, services, or community partnerships, provided such use reflects the positive nature of the event and does not misrepresent any participant or animal.
7. Indemnification & Hold Harmless
The Entrant agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Resilient Rover LLC, Standard Deviant Brewing, their officers, employees, contractors, agents, volunteers, and Sponsors from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, injuries, losses, costs, or expenses (including attorney’s fees) arising out of or related to participation in or attendance at the Event.
This includes, but is not limited to, claims related to:
Animal behavior (bites, scratches, injuries, property damage)
Accidents or injuries occurring at the venue
Misconduct, negligence, or violations of law by any participant or guest
8. Assumption of Risk & Release of Liability
By attending or participating in the Event, Entrant acknowledges and voluntarily assumes all inherent risks associated with attendance at a public venue, including exposure to other animals, people, and environmental hazards.
Entrant understands and agrees that participation may involve risks of personal injury, property damage, illness, or other harm, and voluntarily releases and discharges Resilient Rover LLC, Standard Deviant Brewing, and all Sponsors from any and all claims, demands, or causes of action arising out of participation or attendance, except where prohibited by law.
This release applies to all forms of liability, whether based on negligence, premises liability, animal behavior, or any other legal theory.
9. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising under this Agreement shall be resolved exclusively in the courts of San Francisco County, California.
10. Digital Acceptance & Signature Clause
By signing below or checking the acknowledgment box in any online or digital registration form, the participant affirms that they have read, understood, and voluntarily agreed to this Agreement.
Electronic acceptance constitutes a legally binding signature equivalent to a handwritten signature.
